Judicial Officers and support staff of the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) are currently participating in an in-house training on the Uganda Legal Information Institute (ULII), an internet-based platform that provides the public with access to Ugandan legal information in a bid to promote and support the rule of law.

The training highlights the Judiciary's continued emphasis on digital transformation and evidence-based adjudication, aligning with broader institutional efforts to enhance performance management and research capacity.

In her remarks, the Acting Registrar JTI, HW Lillian Bucyana, emphasized that continuous professional development remains central to the Institute's mandate. She noted that proficiency in digital legal research tools such as ULII enhances the quality, consistency, and timeliness of judicial work.

She further underscored the importance of leveraging technology to strengthen evidence-based decision-making, support data analytics and performance management, and promote transparency within the justice system.

The training is being facilitated by HW Joel Wegoye, Senior Magistrate Grade One at JTI. It focuses on practical navigation of the platform, including advanced case law searches, access to statutes, data analytics and performance management insights, and retrieval of judicial decisions to support effective legal research and adjudication.

Participants are also engaging in an interactive question-and-answer session, providing an opportunity to seek clarification on technical aspects of the platform, share user experiences, and address practical challenges encountered in legal research.

The initiative is in line with JTI's commitment to strengthen research capacity, enhance digital literacy within the Judiciary, support data-driven performance management, and promoting efficient access to authoritative legal resources.
